Registration Letter to Parents:
I’m writing to pass along information about our plans and your options for this year’s faith formation program and also about how you can register. In order for your child to receive credit for the year and move on to the next grade next year, you’ll have to choose one of the options. With all of the challenges we’re all facing these days, we want this to be easy for families, without letting a year of formation to just slip away.
We have three faith formation options in mind for families:
Option 1: The traditional in-class sessions with a teacher, with some supplemental homework.
(Please note: Whether and how often we can offer this option depends on how many parents choose it for their kids and how many parents or other parishioners volunteer to teach. This is one reason it will be important for you to register and express your choice soon and also that more adults volunteer to teach.)
Option 2: Home-schooling. Seven Dolors provides workbooks and worksheets, and parents serve as teacher at home. Materials are picked up and dropped off at the parish monthly.
Option 3: An online curriculum that students work with independently at home. In an effort to provide good options that meet families’ needs, we are in the process of creating this option. It will include videos, online games, live chat, interactive class sessions, and other online tools.
You will indicate which option you prefer when you register.
The registration fee will be $45 per child for all grades. (We have normally charged $85 for second grade and eleventh grade students, to help cover the costs of the First Communion and Confirmation retreats, but we won’t be having those retreats this year, because of social distancing concerns.)
Please note: I know times are tough for some families. Please don’t avoid participating in faith formation for financial reasons. If cost is an issue, please let me know. I’m happy to work out something that works for you. Our parish is a ministry, not a business; the reason for the fee is to help us cover the costs involved in administering the program.
Please register your kids either in person at the parish office or online, between August 28 and September 9.
As you can imagine, planning and scheduling for the in-class sessions will be tricky, given space availability (with the required social distancing) and teacher availability. If a particular grade only has one or two students choosing the classroom option, we may have to eliminate that option for that grade. So it’s important for families to register and choose their options as soon as possible. Also, please note that because of the need to plan early and also do social distancing, we will not have sign-ups on the first night of class as we often have in the past. It needs to be done in person or online by September 9.
To register online, starting August 28:
To register for Faith Formation grades 1-10 here is your link :
(You’ll see there’s a $2 processing fee for online payments; this is charged by the company that processes the payment, not by the parish.)
I’m sure you’ll understand when I point out that our approach to faith formation, especially in-class sessions, could change quickly as the year progresses. With that in mind, I’d like to ask that each family download the myParish app. This will help me communicate any changes quickly and to everyone.
I want to say thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding as we figure out how to move forward effectively and safely with faith formation. Thanks also to the parents who filled out the survey I sent a couple of weeks ago to help us understand families’ needs and how to address them.
Our parish exists to serve you. If there is anything we can do to help you or your family during these difficult times, please let us know! Let’s pray for one another!
Students who should have made Confirmation in April 2020, will now be making it on October 4 at Seven Dolors at 2:00. The students of Seven Dolors and St. Anthony will be making it together. We will not be able to hold a social gathering afterwards, like we have in the past. We will have to practice and keep in place all social distancing regulations. In the next couple weeks you will receive more information on seating and guests that will be able to attend Confirmation.
Each year it is required that we participate in training all *new* adults who will have the opportunity to interact with minors. Each *new* parent volunteer will need to register themselves by clicking this link: https://stcloud.cmgconnect.org/
Once you have click on the link, you will register as a new account on the far right side of your screen*. Follow the directions and training. After training is completed, you will be asked to fill out a background check, please go ahead and do that. Once the background check is submitted, you are set for the next five years. If you have questions, have concerns or need assistance with safe environment, please contact Toni Hudock directly. Thank you.
If you have completed a background check within the past five years and you’ve completed a training within those five years, your training is complete. If training has not been completed or have been saved, our staff will reach out to you.
*If you are up to date with training or are uncertain of when your training took place, please contact Toni Hudock immediately.
