Lector Formation

Breaking Open the Word – Empowering Lay People

At the Harvest of Hope Catholic Community we have a goal to “Empower Lay leader to actively promote the joy of the Gospel,” and one of the action steps is to empower all ministers. One of the most visible ministers we have in our community is that of lay lectors at mass.

To meet this goal of empowerment, we are offering a once a month formation session for lectors and lay people who want to ‘break open the Word.’ Sessions will begin online with the hopes to gather in person as long as it is safe to do so. We meet on the last Saturday of month from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. Each session will review some aspect of the theology of lectoring, a review of readings for the coming month, and opportunities for practice and look at best practices for lectoring. The first session will be on Saturday, November 28 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. This session will cover both Advent and Christmas Seasons and will cover the reading for December and January.
